Producer • Writer

Early in his career, Peter Nowalk made a prudent professional decision: hitch his wagon to the Shonda Rhimes train. Nowalk worked behind the scenes on each of Rhimes' hit small screen creations, "Grey's Anatomy" (ABC 2005- ) and "Scandal" (ABC 2012 ), acting as a producer and writer with increasing autonomy with the passage of time. Under the Rhimes brand, Nowalk created his own series "How to Get Away with Murder" (ABC 2014- ), a straight-out-the-gate sensation thanks to the acting talents of Viola Davis and Nowalk's unparalleled gift for camp. Peter Nowalk was born and raised in Pt. Pleasant, New Jersey, and educated at Brown University. One of his earliest creative successes was in print, as he co-wrote with Hillary Stamm The Hollywood Assistant's Handbook: 86 Rules for Aspiring Power Players in 2008. That was an eventful year for Nowalk, as he also began his tenure under the wing of Shonda Rhimes, working as a writer and story editor on her popular medical drama "Grey's Anatomy." Nowalk continued to write for the series regularly, graduating to a co-producer role in 2010 and a supervising producer position in 2012. The following year, Nowalk began to split his attention between 'Grey's Anatomy' and Rhimes' new series, the political soap opera "Scandal," entering production on the latter as a co-executive producer. In 2014, however, Nowalk got to showcase his talents in earnest when he created his own series: "How to Get Away with Murder," a legal drama starring Viola Davis as an unorthodox law professor who uses the titular maxim to crack the toughest criminal cases with her top tier of students.
