Born and raised in Virginia, Zachary Knighton began to take performing seriously in high school, the attended Virginia Commonwealth University. While still in school, he landed his first professional job, a supporting role in the TV movie "Sally Hemmings: An American Scandal" (PBS, 2000). He took a year off from VCU to study theater in Oxford before returning to complete his BFA in theater. After graduation, Knighton spent five years in New York, working in theater while still taking time to play supporting roles on shows like "Ed" (NBC, 2000-04), and "Law & Order" (NBC, 1990-2010). In 2005, Knighton landed his first series regular role, the lead character in "Life on a Stick" (Fox, 2005), a comedy about a high school graduate who takes time off to consider his future while working in the food court at the local mall. The series was cancelled before the end of its first season, but Knighton was on his way. In 2007, Knighton made his debut as a feature film leading man in "The Hitcher" (2007), a remake of the 1986 thriller. Knighton landed another series regular role on the sci-fi drama "Flashforward" (ABC, 2009-2010), which was cancelled after it's first season. Fortunately for Knighton, he earned another series regular role even before the cancellation, this time in the ensemble of the romantic sitcom "Happy Endings" (ABC, 2011-13). The series was well liked and aired for three seasons before being cancelled. Knighton soldiered on, appearing as a series regular another short lived series, "Weird Loners" (Fox, 2015), as well as recurring and guest roles on shows like "Fresh off the Boat" (ABC, 2015-), "Santa Clarita Diet" (Netflix, 2017-) and "LA to Vegas" (Fox, 2018). In 2018 it was announced that he would be a regular on the series reboot of "Magnum P.I." (CBS, 2018-), starring Jay Hernandez in the role that made Tom Selleck famous.
