‘They Call Me Magic’: Apple TV+ Magic Johnson Docuseries Sets Premiere
The highly anticipated docuseries They Call Me Magic, following the life of NBA legend Magic Johnson, will premiere on April 22 on Apple TV+. The series will give fans an inside look at the enduring cultural figure’s journey on and off the basketball court.
“With unprecedented access, the docuseries explores Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson’s remarkable journey from being the face of the Los Angeles Lakers and cementing himself as an all-time NBA legend, to changing the conversation around HIV, and transforming into a successful entrepreneur and community activist,” reads the doc’s description.
“From his humble beginnings in Lansing, Michigan to becoming the global force he is today, They Call Me Magic features intimate interviews with Magic, his family, and an all-star lineup, as the docuseries charts the cinematic life of one of the biggest cultural icons of our era.”
“I think that you just have to come out swinging. And I’m swinging,” Johnson says in the series’ first look teaser, which he shared on Instagram.

Rick Famuyiwa (Dope) directs the series with Dirk Westervelt (Ford v. Ferrari) as editor and Rachel Morrison (Black Panther) as cinematographer.
