‘grown-ish’ Adds ‘black-ish’ Star Marcus Scribner for Season 5
Grown-ish is recruiting some black-ish vets for its fifth season at Freeform as the network unveiled Marcus Scribner and showrunner Courtney Lilly will be joining the spinoff series.
Award-winning playwright and producer Zakiyyah Alexander (Russian Doll, La Brea) will also be joining the college-set series as a co-showrunner alongside Lilly. Along with being picked up for a fifth season, the latest chapter will see Scribner’s black-ish character Andre Johnson Jr. join his big sis Zoey (Yara Shahidi).
While the final season of black-ish is coming to a close, Scribner’s addition to the Cal U crew his TV sister inhabits is a seamless fit for the continuation of this -ish universe. Viewers will follow along as Junior embarks on his own journey to being “grown.”
Originally debuting in 2018, grown-ish is currently in its fourth season on Freeform where it airs Thursdays and the next day on Hulu. Meanwhile, black-ish first arrived in 2014 on ABC where fans were first introduced to the Johnsons. In 2018, Shahidi’s Zoey left the family nest for college in grown-ish where she’s remained since with crossover on black-ish.
The final season of black-ish continues its ABC run beginning March 22 as viewers approach the impending end. Despite the flagship series ending, grown-ish‘s continuation certainly makes way for potential cameos and guest roles for black-ish fan-favorite characters as has been the case since the spinoff premiered.
Season 5 of grown-ish is being executive produced by Kenya Barris, Zakiyyah Alexander, Courtney Lilly, Craig Doyle, Yara Shahidi, Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Helen Sugland, E. Brian Dobbins, and Michael Petok. Additional casting news will be announced at a later time. Stay tuned for more and don’t miss black-ish and grown-ish on ABC and Freeform.
