‘Chicago Med’: Steven Weber Remaining As Series Regular for Season 8
Dr. Dean Archer will continue to antagonize staff and patients at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center as Steven Weber is set to return as a series regular in Season 8 of NBC medical drama Chicago Med.
According to Deadline, Weber recently closed on a new deal with the popular Dick Wolf series. Weber originally joined the show in the sixth season as a recurring character before being upped to series regular for Season 7 in a one-year deal.
Weber plays Dr. Dean Archer, the Head of the Emergency Department at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. While he is a great surgeon, his confrontational approach to patients makes him a controversial figure amongst his work colleagues. He also has a disdain for anything to do with mental illness and psychiatry, which puts him at odds with the other doctors, especially Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt).
Chicago Med was created by Wolf and Matt Olmstead and is the third series in Wolf Entertainment’s Chicago franchise, which also includes Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. It follows the day-to-day drama on the emergency department at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, focusing on the doctors and nurses as they work to save patients’ lives.
Weber is perhaps best known for his role as Brian Hackett on the 1990s’ NBC sitcom Wings. He also portrayed Sam Blue in the ABC family drama Once and Again and Jack Torrance in the TV miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s The Shining. His other TV credits include The CW’s iZombie, CBS’ NCIS: New Orleans, and Epix comedy-drama Get Shorty. He most recently starred in the NBC sitcom Indebted.
Chicago Med is produced by Universal Television, in association with Wolf Entertainment. It is executive produced by Wolf, Olmstead, Diane Frolov, Andrew Schneider, Stephen Hootstein, Derek Haas, Arthur Forney, Michael Brandt, and Peter Jankowski.
The eighth season is scheduled to premiere later this year on NBC.
