Emmy-nominated actor Harry Hamlin (Mad Men) has landed a series regular role in AMC‘s adaptation of Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches, which is set to debut in late 2022.

According to Deadline, Hamlin will portray Cortland Mayfair, the reigning patriarch of the Mayfair clan, who has an insatiable appetite for more money, more power, and more life. It’s the former L.A. Law star’s first series regular role in over two decades and marks his return to AMC, where he previously played Jim Cutler on the critically acclaimed period drama, Mad Men.

The series is written and executive producer by Masters of Sex duo Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford and is based on Rice’s popular Lives of the Mayfair Witches trilogy. It centers on an intuitive young neurosurgeon who finds that she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches. While learning to grasp her newfound powers, she must deal with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations.

“From Mad Men to Mayfair, we’re delighted to have Harry back at AMC joining a cast that will bring to life the captivating world and cast of characters that Esta, Michelle and Mark [Johnson] have beautifully adapted for our second series in the Anne Rice universe,” said AMC Networks’ president of entertainment Dan McDermott (via Deadline). “Harry is an immensely talented and seasoned pro and we can’t wait to see what he’ll bring to the intricate role of Cortland Mayfair.”

In addition to his new TV role, Hamlin has also been cast in a supporting role in the upcoming Tom Brady-inspired film, 80 for Brady. The story follows a group of best friends and New England Patriots fans who take a trip to the Super Bowl to see their hero Tom Brady. Hamlin will star opposite Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, and Sally Field.
