Tony Awards 2022 Nominees: Full List Includes Billy Crystal, Uzo Aduba, Ruth Negga
The nominations are in for the upcoming 75th Tony Awards, and several film and television stars are among this year’s crop of contenders, including Hugh Jackman, Uzo Aduba, Billy Crystal, and Ruth Negga.
Jackman, who plays con man Professor Harold Hill in The Music Man, and Crystal, who portrays Buddy Young Jr in Mr. Saturday Night, are both nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical. In 2004, Jackman won a Tony for his performance in the jukebox musical The Boy from Oz.
Meanwhile, Orange Is the New Black actress Aduba is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play for her role in Clyde’s, and Passing star Negga is up for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play for her villainous turn in Macbeth.
The meta-musical A Strange Loop leads the pack with 11 nominations, including the much sought-after Best Musical. The show previously won a Pulitzer Prize in 2020 for its Off-Broadway run. Following closely behind with 10 nominations each are MJ, a jukebox musical featuring the music of Michael Jackson, and Paradise Square, a Manhattan-set musical about the tensions that erupted in the violent Draft Riots of 1863.
Schmigadoon! star and recent Oscar-winner Ariana DeBose is set to host the ceremony, which will air live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Sunday, June 12, at 8 pm ET on CBS and Paramount+.
