FX has unveiled its first look at upcoming half-hour comedy series The Bear starring Shameless alum Jeremy Allen White.

The actor returns to Chicago for this tale about a young chef named Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto who has come from the fine-dining world and returns home to help run his family’s sandwich shop – The Original Beef of Chicagoland– following the tragic loss of his brother by suicide.

As teased in the trailer, below, Carmy has to face several different challenges among which include the struggles of small business ownership, working through grief, working with a strong-willed and reluctant kitchen staff, and strained familial relationships.

Carmy returns “trying to change something that might not be broken,” White told TV Insider about his character at Disney Upfronts. His costar Ebon Moss-Bachrach echoed this sentiment, adding that Carmy, “has a lot of new ideas about things that he’s trying to do.”

We see Carmy try implementing these changes in the trailer as he receives pushback from a kitchen staff who ultimately reveals themselves to be his chosen family. As Carmy transforms The Original Bee of Chicagoland and himself, The Bear shines a spotlight on food, family, and the insanity of the grind.

Joining White and Moss-Bachrach in the series are Ayo Edebiri, Abby Elliott, Lionel Boyce, and Liza Colón-Zayas, with Edwin Lee Gibson and Matty Matheson in recurring roles. The Bear was created by Christopher Storer who serves as an executive producer alongside Joanna Calo, Hiro Murai, Nate Matteson, and Josh Senior. Meanwhile, Tyson Bidner serves as a producer and Matty Matheson serves as co-producer.
