2022 TCA Nominees: ‘Abbott Elementary,’ ‘Severance,’ ‘Yellowjackets’ & More

In what may be a long string of awards season success, Abbott Elementary leads in nominations for the 2022 Television Critics Association (TCA) Awards with five. Creator and star Quinta Brunson received a nod along with breakout star Janelle James. And coming in just behind the heartwarming ABC comedy are Better Call Saul, Severance, and Yellowjackets with four nominations each. Hacks, Only Murders in the Building, Squid Game, and Succession each have three.
Many of the Program of the Year nominees are freshman shows such as Abbott Elementary, Severance, and more, and there are seasoned vets like Better Call Saul in the category. And while Abbott Elementary has the most nominations out of the shows, HBO/HBO Max takes the cake for network nominations with 21. Netflix raked in 13, HBO proper has 12, Apple TV+ has 10, HBO Max has 9, Hulu has 8, and Showtime has 6.
The TCAs honor the best of television across all genres, from fictional dramas and comedies to children’s programming, news, talk shows, and sketch comedy. The 38th annual TCA Awards will take place at Pasadena’s Langham Huntington Hotel on Saturday, August 6, marking the first time the TCA Awards will be held in-person since 2019.
“The 2022 TCA Awards are an exciting landmark for the organization and its members, as it will be the first time in three years that we are finally able to celebrate together in person,” Melanie McFarland, TCA President and TV Critic for Salon, said. “It’s fitting, then, that we should ring in this long-awaited occasion with one of the most competitive, talented, and star-heavy nominee rosters in recent memory. This lineup is a testament to how diverse and innovative the modern television landscape has become. We cannot wait to see who will rise above the rest when the winners are revealed at the 38th annual TCA Awards on August 6.”
