‘Partner Track’ Breakout Bradley Gibson on Renewal Chances: ‘We Need Season 2!’ (VIDEO)
A second season for Netflix legal series Partner Track? That sounds like an open-and-shut case! Need to see some evidence? Well, the show, which dropped its first season of 10 episodes on August 26, became an instant hit and has been a regular fixture in the streamer’s Top 10 rankings ever since.
Now, fans clearly need more of legal eagles/best pals Ingrid Yun (Arden Cho), Rachel Friedman (Alexandra Turshen) and Tyler Robinson (Bradley Gibson), whose friendship — certainly the core of the series — was anything but typical. And we have a stellar witness to prove it. “I feel like we’re forming one of those iconic television friendships,” Gibson told our Jim Halterman recently. “The energies are different because we have an Asian woman, we have a white Jewish woman, we have a black queer man. That’s a different trio. That’s a different dynamic. And there’s a lot of things we can play with; we have so many stories to tell. And I think we’re also giving people an opportunity to feel seen. That friendship group is really allowing people to see themselves in a way that they haven’t seen themselves on television.”
While the first season focused on life in the upscale New York City law firm of Parsons Valentine & Hunt, it gave equal time to the love lives and familial relationships outside the firm. And both sides were worth seeing — with the clothes of the characters a compelling Exhibit A. “Our costume designer and I would go in those four- or five-hour fittings with tons of suits and shirts and ties and shoes and all the cuff links and everything, and just really collaborate,” Gibson says of his always well-appointed Robinson, adding that it definitely allowed him to find the core of the character. “The clothes just helped me tap in even more so, because while I love the clothes he wore, his taste and style are not my own. It’s so fun to play like that.”
Also in the chat, Gibson talked about the off-screen friendship he developed with costars Cho and Turshen, as well as more on what his gut tells him about the show getting a second season to continue the stories. Watch the full video here.
