Who Is Mandy Moore, ‘La La Land’ Choreographer?

When director Damien Chazelle was awarded the Best Director statue for La La Land at Sunday night’s 74th annual Golden Globe Awards, some viewers may have been wondering why he thanked Mandy Moore. Mandy Moore, the singer and Golden Globe-nominated actress currently starring in NBC’s hit drama This Is Us, is likely the first “Mandy Moore” to pop into people’s minds when they hear that name.

But Chazelle was thanking another Mandy Moore—the choreographer who brought to life La La Land‘s stunning dance sequences (she’s pictured left above). Until La La Land, this Mandy Moore was probably best known for her work on FOX’s So You Think You Can Dance, for which she has received four Emmy nominations.

Maybe adding to the confusion was the fact that Mandy Moore, the actress, presented an award shortly around the time Chazelle received his—not the best timing. So there you have it: Mandy Moore, who plays Rebecca, mom to The Big Three on This Is Us, is not the Mandy Moore who choreographed Golden Globe-winning Best Picture, Comedy or Musical, La La Land.
