Is a ‘black-ish’ Spinoff in the Works?
There may soon be more black-ish on your television. Deadline reports ABC is eyeing a spinoff of the comedy, starring Yara Shahidi. The spinoff would focus on Shahidi’s character, 17-year-old Zoey Johnson, who is headed off to college. Series creator and executive producer Kenya Barris would develop the project with ABC Studios.
The pilot for the new show would likely air as a backdoor pilot later this season on black-ish.
Black-ish is in its third season. It stars Anthony Anderson as Andre ‘Dre’ Johnson and Tracee Ellis Ross as his wife, Rainbow. Ross recently took home a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy category for her starring role. The series has also received multiple Emmy nominations since its debut in 2014.
Another series in the works at ABC: a ’90s-set spinoff of The Goldbergs.
