‘Who Is Erin Carter?’ Tops Netflix Charts, Will There Be a Second Season?
Netflix‘s thriller Who Is Erin Carter? was only intended as a limited series, but fans are now wondering if a second season could be possible as the show continues to climb the streaming charts.
According to Deadline, the series has landed at the No. 1 spot on Netflix’s English-language TV charts, knocking Depp v. Heard into the No. 2 position. The Evin Ahmad-starring series racked up 13.2 million views on the streamer from August 21 to 27.
Who Is Erin Carter? stars Ahmad as the titular Erin, a British ex-pat who moves with her family to Barcelona, Spain, to start a new life as a school teacher. But after becoming caught up in a supermarket robbery, one of the robbers claims to recognize Erin, threatening to unravel her life.
Over the course of the series, it becomes clear that Erin is living a double life, one that she has kept secret from her friends, family, and co-workers.
In addition to Ahmad, the cast includes Sean Teale as Erin’s confused husband, Jordi; Indica Watson as Erin’s equally baffled daughter, Harper; Susannah Fielding as Olivia, the secretary at the school where Erin works; and Denise Gough as Lena Campbell, a woman from Erin’s past who is here to reveal all.
The show was created by executive producer Rob Bullock and writer Jack Lothian, the duo behind the spy series Strike Back. Born from the idea of doing a spin-off series based on the successful action series, Who Is Erin Carter? was always intended to be a seven-episode limited series.
But despite mixed reviews from critics (the show holds a 57% rating on Rotten Tomatoes), Who Is Erin Carter? has been a streaming hit, and if viewership continues to rise, it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility for Netflix to renew the drama.
Teale is certainly keeping his fingers crossed for another season, as he told The Daily Express his hopes of exploring his character further.
“Me and Jack [Lothian] were talking, and there are moments towards the end of the series where Jordi’s profession as a nurse is of value,” he shared. “It would be interesting to see how his skills could be utilized in the future. Whether he can cope with it all, how he rationalizes it. If it’s worth it or just whether he’s capable of it.”
“He has got some deep existential questions that need answering,” Teale concluded.
