Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs To Receive Global Icon Award At The 2023 VMAs
Sean “Diddy” Combs, the iconic hip-hop mogul & record producer, will be honored with the Global Icon Award and perform at the MTV 2023 Music Video Awards live from New Jersey’s Prudential Center on September 12 at 8 PM ET/PT. Diddy is receiving this award for his outstanding career and lasting impact on music and the industry at large.
Diddy’s career spans over three decades, boasting two #1 albums on the Billboard 200 and five #1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100. This event also marks his first VMAs performance since 2005.
Aside from the Global Icon Award, Diddy is nominated in four other categories this year for his work on “Creepin” (Remix) with producer Metro Boomin and singer/actor The Weeknd, and “Gotta Move On” with Bryson Tiller, including two nominations for “Best Collaboration,” as well as “Best Rap” and “Best R&B.”
The Global Icon Award, originating from MTV’s Europe Music Awards (EMAs), recognizes artists or bands with a unique level of global success in music and other fields. Notably, Diddy also hosted the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2002.
Diddy has a rich history with the VMAs, from his memorable debut performance of “Mo Money Mo Problems” in 1997 to his 2002 medley performance and hosting duties in 2005. He also won a Moonman for “Best R&B Video” in 1997 and the “Viewer’s Choice” award in 1998 during his early years as a nominee.
Diddy is set to release his highly anticipated R&B album, The Love Album: Off the Grid, on September 15, 2023, under his LOVE RECORDS label and his new Love moniker. This album marks his triumphant return to music, showcasing his evolution as an artist and producer. With a diverse array of collaborators, Diddy promises his album will redefine R&B and captivate audiences worldwide.
As a cultural icon, innovator, and music mogul, Diddy’s influence on the industry is unparalleled. His historic catalog of hit records and track record of shaping superstar sounds underscore his significance in music. He’s responsible for signing The Notorious BIG, Janelle Monae, Machine Gun Kelly, and countless other high-profile artists.
Last year, the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards honored Red Hot Chili Peppers with the Global Icon Award.
