2017 Oscar Nominations: ‘La La Land’ Leads the Pack; ‘HTGAWM’ Star Viola Davis Up for Best Supporting Actress
The 89th Annual Academy Awards nominations are in and, as expected, “La La Land” received the most nominations of any film. With 14 nominations, the Damien Chazelle musical ties “All About Eve” and “Titanic” for the most in Academy Award nominations in history.
“How to Get Away With Murder” star Viola Davis was nominated for best supporting actress in a supporting role for her work in “Fences.” The nominations of Davis, Octavia Spencer (“Hidden Figures”) and Naomie Harris (“Moonlight”) made history as being the first time three black actresses have been nominated in the same category.
Also nominated: Luke Cage‘s Mahershala Ali for his role in “Moonlight.”
The awards will be handed out Sunday, February 26, at the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center. Jimmy Kimmel will host this year’s fete. The comedian is a seasoned awards show host having done the honor at the Emmys twice—first in 2012 and again in September 2016.
