A familiar face is returning to Salem as Kyle Lowder is set to reprise his role as Rex Brady on Days of Our Lives.

Lowder first teased his return on August 12 on his Instagram Stories, where he shared a video from his car. “I’m back in a very familiar place today, and tomorrow, and the next day,” the soap star said. “Give you a hint — I’m in Burbank at a studio. I’ve been doing this a long time, but it’s been a minute! I’m excited.”

A Days spokesperson later confirmed to Soap Opera Digest that Lowder would indeed be returning to the long-running daytime series. “It’s true! Rex is in Salem, we’ll just have to see what brought him back… next spring,” the spokesperson stated, noting Lowder’s episodes will air in 2025.

Lowder has a long history with Days, having first joined the soap in 2000 as Brady Black, a role he played until 2005. He was brought back in 2018; however, at that point, Eric Martsolf was firmly established as the adult version of Brady Black, so Lowder was recast as Rex Brady, one of the Gemini Twins originally played by Eric Winter.

While Lowder wrapped up his contracted stint in 2019, he made subsequent appearances from 2020 to 2023. Part of his reason for exiting the soap was to spend more time with his daughter, Isabella, whom he shares with former Days star and his ex-wife, Arianne Zucker. Zucker and her fiancé, Shawn Christian, live in the Lake Tahoe region of Nevada.

Since leaving Days, Lowder has been working as a morning anchor for the CBS affiliate KTVN in Reno, Nevada.

In a 2023 interview with Soap Opera Digest, Lowder explained how his daughter wanted to live full-time in Nevada to be close to her mom, which gave him the impetus to move from Los Angeles.

“Immediately, the wheels started to turn in my head about, ‘Okay, she’s got five years left before she graduates high school and then becomes an adult and decides what she wants to do,'” Lowder stated. “I don’t want to spend those five years driving up or flying in as much as I can and being a visitor in her life.'”

However, he has always been open to returning to the world of soaps.

“The soap opera genre is the first job I ever had,” he told Digest. “I love that industry. My gut answer is, if Days of Our Lives called, or any show for that matter, obviously, I’m on contract, so I couldn’t sign another contract. But if I got a phone call to see if I could pop in for an episode or two, schedule permitting, I would love to do that.”
