‘American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez’ Trailer: Josh Rivera Transforms Into Infamous Patriots Player (VIDEO)
Ryan Murphy is expanding his American anthology library at FX with the introduction of American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez. The upcoming series chronicles the story of disgraced former Patriots player Aaron Hernandez.
Set to premiere on Tuesday, September 17, the series trailer sees Josh Rivera transform into the season’s subject, for an adaptation of the story presented in the podcast Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc. hailing from The Boston Globe and Wondery. The limited series examines the rise and eventual fall of the NFL superstar, exploring his identity, family, career, suicide, and legacy in sports and American culture.
The trailer, above, offers a closer glimpse at the drama set to unfold, including Hernandez’s time playing with the Super Bowl-winning New England Patriots team. The 10-episode season will also tackle Hernandez’s crimes including the murder of Odin Lloyd, which he was eventually convicted for committing.
As shown in the teaser, American Sports Story sees Rivera transform into Hernandez and introduces other notable figures including Norbert Leo Butz as coach Bill Belichick, Patrick Schwarzenegger as Tim Tebow, Thomas Sadoski as agent Brian Murphy, Jaylen Barron as Shayanna Jenkins, Lindsay Mendez as Tanya Singelton, Ean Castellanos as DJ Hernandez, Tammy Blanchard as Terri Hernandez, Tony Yazbeck as Urban Meyer, and Jake Cannavale as Chris.
American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez is executive produced for television by Murphy, Stuart Zicherman, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, and Carl Franklin. Hernan Lopez and Marshall Lewy of Wondery also serve as executive producers alongside Linda Pizzuti Henry and Ira Napoliello of The Boston Globe. The series is produced by 20th Television.
