What’s Worth Watching: The Tickle of Iliza Shlesinger: Freezing Hot on Netflix
Iliza Shlesinger: Freezing Hot (Friday, Jan. 23, Netflix)
Be warned: Funnywoman Iliza Shlesinger’s comic stylings are like a good tickle — laugh-inducing, but a bit icky. Her well-honed shtick mocks the lifestyle habits of twenty- and thirty-something women, especially their more superficial interests. Sephora, Pinterest, and pumpkin spice lattes all take well-deserved hits in Freezing Hot, her second standup special. (Pinterest, she says, “is porn for white women.”)
At times during the comedy special, you might find yourself saying, “But Iliza, this certainly doesn’t apply to all ladies.” And, as you become increasingly desperate, “STOP MAKING WOMEN SEEM SO BAD.” I did. Then I realized that, as she says, the reason I never note driving directions or remember where I parked the car is because those things are boring. I felt ashamed, angry, and, admittedly, a little warm, fuzzy, and sweet on Iliza. She’s hilarious and she gets me. A little. She might tickle you, too.
