New Episodes of ‘Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints’ Schedule & Preview

Martin Scorsese Presents The Saints
FOX Nation

FOX Nation and famed director Martin Scorsese continue to explore the lives of saints in the docuseries Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints, which picks up with new episodes beginning Friday, April 4.

Scorsese narrates each episode, which tells a saint’s story through historical reenactments, followed by a segment with Scorsese engaging in a discussion with scholars about the saint.

“These are incredible stories of men and women who really are facing the most difficult test of all in humanity, which is faith,” says creator and executive producer Matti Leshem. “And in many cases, they’re willing to die for it. And I think that that is the thing that inspired us to use these particular stories, to tell the story of what’s facing all of us right now — whether you’re a believer or an atheist, everyone has to believe in something. And I think what’s incredible about the stories of the saints is that it kind of goes to the notion that the human spirit has an incredible capacity for conviction and for transcendence and for sacrifice in the service of something larger than itself.”

The first four episodes — covering Joan of Arc, John the Baptist, Sebastian and Maximilian Kolbe — premiered on FOX Nation in November and December.

Here’s a preview of the first three new episodes for the Easter season:

Francis of Assisi (Friday, April 4) At the beginning of the 13th century, a wealthy young man named Francis experiences firsthand the horrors of war when he’s captured after a horrible defeat in battle. Scarred by the experience, Francis puts aside his old life of frivolity and searches for new meaning. He finds it in a command from Jesus himself – to “rebuild my church.” Francis spends the rest of his life following that command, in the process starting a brotherhood, preaching on how to live like Christ, and even ending face-to-face with the Saracen leader Sultan Al-Kamil at the height of the Fifth Crusade.

Moses the Black (Friday, April 11) In 4th century Egypt, there is no bandit more bloodthirsty than a runaway slave named Moses. But during a sudden moment of faith, Moses decides to make the remarkable decision to cast aside his former life and give up violence. Searching for new meaning, Moses finds himself at a remote desert monastery, where he undergoes a tumultuous personal journey in pursuit of a life dedicated to Christ. Slowly Moses transforms into a leader in the community, until his decision to embrace nonviolence comes to a head during a raid on his new home.

Mary Magdalene (Friday, April 18) Mary Magdalene, a Galilean woman, was suffering great spiritual affliction when she met a remarkable healer – Jesus of Nazareth. After Jesus cures her of seven demons, Mary becomes one of Christ’s closest followers. But her most important role is as the witness to Jesus’ Resurrection, after which she is tasked with being an important herald of early Christianity.
