‘Yellowstone’s Jefferson White Joins ‘Marshals’ Season 2 in Recurring Role

Jefferson White is returning to the Yellowstone TV universe in Marshals Season 2. White will reprise his Yellowstone character, cowboy Jimmy Hurdstrom, in a recurring role in the second season, CBS announced on September 16. Marshals Season 2 premieres October 4. Jimmy is the good-hearted yet rough-around-the-edges ranch hand who evolved from a troubled criminal into a resilient, proud cowboy in Yellowstone. He was written out of Yellowstone in Season 4 after Jimmy moved to the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas and returned in the final season. The last time viewers saw him, he was working as a horse trainer in Texas with Travis, played by franchise creator Taylor Sheridan.

“I’m thrilled to dive into the world of Marshals and continue exploring the American West,” White said in a statement. “The cast and crew are stacked full of my favorite actors and filmmakers, and I’m honored to join them. Jimmy and I have been through a lot together, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for us.”

Marshals stars Luke Grimes in his Yellowstone role as Kayce Dutton as he joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana. Season 1 ended with Kayce’s son, Tate (Brecken Merrill), being kidnapped by Tom Weaver (Chris Mulkey). Tom said he was taking Tate to Texas. As fate would have it, that’s where Jimmy lives. Could he help save John Dutton’s (Kevin Costner) grandson?

Jimmy’s Texas plot served as a backdoor pilot for the Yellowstone spinoff 6666, which was announced in 2021. Sheridan was attached to executive produce it and seemingly write it, but in 2026, he said in a podcast interview that the 6666 spinoff was never going to happen and that he “would never” fictionalize the famed Texas ranch, which he bought with a group of investors in 2022.

The other Yellowstone spinoff, Dutton Ranch, is set in Texas and stars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler. In our 2026 Fall Preview, Grimes told TV Insider that he and Reilly feel a crossover between Marshals and Dutton Ranch is “necessary.”

“It’s not out of the question that we might have some sort of crossover at some point,” Grimes told TV Insider. “Beth’s basically Kayce’s only living family member other than Tate. It would make sense that down the line we’d at least talk.”

“[Kelly and I have] texted about it back and forth a lot,” Grimes added, “talked about how it’d be fun and necessary for our story arcs, however they’re going to end.”

Marshals Season 2 premieres on October 4 at 8:30/7:30c. It switches back to 8/7c the following week. The spinoff also stars Yellowstone‘s Gil Birmingham and Mo Brings Plenty.
