What’s Worth Watching: Modern Family’s Spring Break

Modern Family, “Spring Break” (Wednesday, March 25, 9/8c, ABC)

Ah, spring. As the temperature gets warmer and the days get longer, what better way to say goodbye to winter than with a good old fashioned spring break? While some use their vacation time for cleaning, like Dunphy matriarch Claire (Julie Bowen), others like Haley (Sarah Hyland) and Alex (Ariel Winter) cut loose and head to a music festival to get their minds off of colleges.

Meanwhile, Jay (Ed O’Neill) and Gloria (Sofia Vergara) challenge each other to drop one of their vices: Spanish soap operas for her and cigars for him. But Gloria finds her own real-life soap opera when she visits Cam (Eric Stonestreet) at his faculty talent show and witnesses a drama-filled rivalry with another teacher (guest star Will Sasso). Jay also finds a way to indulge in a puff or two when he and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) pick up Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) from camp, giving him some time to sneak a smoke in the great outdoors. Even on vacation, this family can’t seem to catch a break.
