What’s Worth Watching: Battle Creek’s Mayor Pain

Battle Creek, “Cereal Killer” (Sunday, April 5, 10/9c, CBS)
Patton Oswalt is like RAM. The more you add, the better things work. And if ratings are an indicator, the fun, but formulaic, cop dramedy Battle Creek hasn’t been working that well. Enter Oswalt tonight as Mayor Scooter Hardy, a popular politician with a forward-thinking fiscal policy and passion for crack. When a sniper shoots at Hardy during the city’s annual Cereal Festival, investigators Chamberlain (Josh Duhamel) and Agnew (Dean Winters) suspect his drug buddies. Wrong. The truth is much more heartbreaking. Hardy is based on former Toronto mayor Rob Ford, but here’s to hoping he’s got some Marion Barry in him, too—and that he’ll be back.
