What’s Worth Watching: ‘Face Off’ on Syfy for Tuesday, August 11
Face Off, “Surprise of the Century” (Tuesday, Aug. 11, 9/8c, Syfy)
When the remaining contestants on this season of the fantastical creature make-up contest Face Off gather in the spooky graveyard of the Pasadena Mausoleum at the start of this week’s episode, it’s not to bury the show. Anything but. Face Off is marking its 100th episode in high style, with a challenge inspired in part by Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride (hence the crypts). The artists pair up—the third team challenge in a row—to transform willing real-life romantic couples into “whimsical but macabre” brides and grooms. With all teams acutely aware of the stakes of ruining anyone’s special day, it all leads to the reveal stage, where after the judges critique the ghoulish makeovers (with more than the usual complement of Beetlejuice references), the couples say their “I do’s” in a group ceremony conducted by series host McKenzie Westmore. Leaving us wondering where the honeymoons might be taking place: Comic Con, perhaps?
