‘Pretty Little Liars’ Season Finale: Our Best Guesses for 6 Questions Being Answered Tonight
Over the course of 6 seasons and 129 episodes, fans of the ABC dramafest that is Pretty Little Liars have had hundreds, if not, thousands of questions for the series. Tonight, we’ve been promised answers to a few of those questions. However, we can’t wait until the season finale airs. So for now, here’s what we’re surmising about some of the major Answers we’ve been promised. The logline for tonight’s episode, titled “Game Over, Charles,” looks like this:
Who killed Toby’s mother? Who hit Alison in the head with the rock the night she went missing? Who is Red Coat? Who killed Bethany? Who is the Black Widow? Why has “A” been targeting the PLLs all this time? After years of torture, Alison, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer finally come face-to-face with their tormentor and learn the story of how and why Charles became “A.”
So, we’ve decided to break down and dissect these questions in preparation for the exciting conclusion.
Disclaimer: This is purely speculation. We cannot get into the minds of the show writers and I. Marlene King, and please accept that possibility that most (or all) of these could be wrong.
Who killed Toby’s (Keegan Allen) mother?
The alleged (nope) suicide of Marion Cavanaugh (Karla Droege) has been a mystery since early on in the series. Option 1: Detective Darren Wilden (Bryce Johnson). This sketchy badge-wearer altered the police report for Marion’s suicide, and his own untimely death showed that the two incidents could be linked. Option 2: There’s also Eddie Lamb (Reggie Austin). The Radley Sanitarium nurse was very concerned about keeping his job (and who knows what he’s doing now). Option 3: If Wren (Julian Morris) does turn out to be A, we wouldn’t be surprised if he forced Eddie into killing Marion. The two of them had major tension that was highlighted throughout their scenes together, with Eddie saying of Wren, “[My gut] told me that the minute that that guy got here, it wasn’t for the right reasons.” And finally, option 4: Jessica DiLaurentis (Andrea Parker), the sketchiest of the Rosewood moms. She was on the Radley board and definitely had some pull in the institution. According to Marion’s obit, she worked for a pediatrician and was an avid bird watcher. With that combo, who knew what kind of secrets she could have compiled about Mrs. D & Co.? Maybe she ran into little Charles in the sanitarium’s halls, and couldn’t help herself from revealing his identity?
Who hit Alison (Sasha Pieterse) in the head with the rock the night she went missing?
Charles, duh. Well, maybe not. Whoever hit her in the Season 4 finale clearly didn’t want to be seen by Alison. From what we know about Charles and his theatrics, it likely wasn’t him. Who else could’ve done it and still left Mrs. D to bury her supposed-but-not-really-dead daughter’s body? The suspects include Jason (Drew Van Acker), Mr. D (Jim Abele), Bethany Young or possibly even Peter Hastings (Nolan North), who was already threatening to reveal their former tryst when Mrs. D threatened his daughter, Spencer (Troian Bellisario).

Who is Red Coat?
One of the biggest red herrings of the series so far, Red Coat has been Ali, as well as CeCe Drake (Vanessa Ray) at times. But who was the third Red Coat that Mona (Janel Parrish) says stole the A-game from her back in Season 3? It’s definitely someone who’s obsessed with Ali, and who could even be Mona (but she’d find a way to defy that logic) or one of the Liars. Or perhaps the supposedly-dead Maya St. Germain (Bianca Lawson) will be linked with the illusive threat’s identity. Another theory? Maybe Sara Harvey (Dre Davis) wasn’t as sheltered by A as she claimed to be.
Who killed Bethany?
Well, technically Melissa Hastings (Torrey DeVito) already claimed that murder. So, case closed? Not even close. We still need to know who hit Bethany with the shovel, since it most likely isn’t Spencer anymore. Also, Bethany’s face will supposedly be seen in tonight’s episode, which should definitely clear some things up. And it wouldn’t be a surprise if Jason wreaked a little havoc on that drunken night.
Who is the Black Widow?
Could it be Melissa? Whoever it turns out to be, it’s someone who seems to feel sorry for the death of Bethany Young (judging by the “Condolences” and flowers being sent to Bethany’s parents). However, Black Widow could also be A; it was recently revealed in the Clues that A “has many disguises.”
Why has “A” been targeting the PLLs all this time?
Well, the Liars sure aren’t perfect. It could stem from “the Jenna thing,” or even from jealousy, being tormented by Ali, mental sickness, or all of the above.
The Pretty Little Liars summer finale airs tonight at 8/7c on ABC Family.
