Why Are Celebs Wearing Blue Ribbons at the 2017 Emmys?

The stars of television came together at Sunday night’s 2017 Emmy Awards to let their voices be heard. While walking the red carpet, some of the nominees donned blue ribbons with their tuxedos and gowns.
The reason? They’re supporting the American Civil Liberties Union’s new “Stand with ACLU” initiative. Transparent‘s Judith Light, Kathryn Hahn, and Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi all proudly posed with their ribbons. Emmy winner and star of The Handmaid’s Tale, Alexis Bledel, wore a blue ribbon during last weekend’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony.
The ACLU is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that “has worked to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and laws of the United States” for almost 100 years.
And in the current political climate, much of Hollywood has rallied against injustice and discrimination.
