Actress Helen Hunt (third from left) took the directing reins for an early 2016 episode of the CBS comedy in which the Short family deals with a surprise visit from Matt’s (Thomas Sadoski) ex-wife (Brenda Song, far left).

“We felt Helen would be able to communicate with our high-level cast—to speak their language as a seasoned fellow actor,” executive producer Justin Adler says. “Having a message delivered by an Oscar winner carries a little extra weight!”
Life in Pieces airs Thursdays at 8:30/7:30c on CBS and will return on Thursday, Jan. 7.
