‘Titans’ Casts Ryan Potter as Beast Boy
The upcoming TV series based on DC Comics’ Teen Titans is in full Beast mode.
Warner Bros. TV announced Wednesday that Titans has tapped Ryan Potter, the voice of Hiro in Big Hero 6, to play another kind of hero: Garfiend “Gar” Logan, the young crimefighter better known as Beast Boy.
Described as a “live-action drama series that follows a group of young soon-to-be superheroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe,” Titans will feature Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson, Batman’s former Robin, who “emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes,” including alien princess Starfire (24: Legacy‘s Anna Diop) and Potter’s Gar.
Presumably, when we first meet the son of geneticists, Gar will be green in every sense of the word—his hair and skin are verdant thanks to an experimental drug his parents dosed him with after contracting a deadly disease on safari—but his new crew should help the wisecracking kid to develop his ability to transform into any animal he can think of.
The series from Greg Berlanti, Sara Schechter, Akiva Goldsman and DC Comics honcho Geoff Johns is set to premiere on DC’s planned digital streaming service in 2018. The Carrie Diaries‘ Lindsay Gort is also on board to play Bludhaven PD detective Amy Rohrbach, while Friday Night Light‘s Minka Kelly and Smallville‘s Aquaman, Alan Ritchson, will recur as winged icons Dove and Hawk.
