Debra Messing Says David Schwimmer’s ‘Will & Grace’ Role Is Far From Ross

Debra Messing is teasing a little bit about David Schwimmer‘s role in the upcoming tenth season of Will & Grace.
The star, who plays one half of the titular characters, reportedly revealed that Schwimmer’s character is far from the comedy role he’s best known for — Friends‘ Ross Geller. According to Variety, Messing, who was attending Project Angel Food’s Angel Awards in Los Angeles over the weekend, told the outlet the scoop.
“He’s as far away from Ross as he can possibly get because he’s already mastered Ross,” Messing told Variety. So, Friends fans holding out hope for a Ross appearance will have to expect something else.
“I think people will be excited to see him in our world playing a different part,” the actress continued to tell Variety. Schwimmer will appear in five episodes during the upcoming season in which he’ll portray a love interest for Grace.
Since Friends, Schwimmer has appeared in small comedy roles on TV, including stints on 30 Rock, Entourage, and Curb Your Enthusiasm while he was still playing Ross. The actor’s most notable and recent TV role has been portraying Robert Kardashian in American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson.
With Schwimmer’s return to NBC comedy, it would be interesting to see how much his character differs from the well-known Ross Geller. Either way, we’ll take Messing’s word for it.
