It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a massive surprise!

The CW and Warner Bros. TV have just confirmed that Tyler Hoechlin, who has previously filled out the most iconic costume on the (daily) planet on Supergirl, will be reprising his role as Superman in December’s three-part Arrowverse crossover.

In addition, Hoechlin’s Superman is bringing along star reporter Lois Lane. Casting will begin shortly for the role, which has been most recently played by Amy Adams in the DC Cinematic Universe’s Man of Steel and Justice League by Amy Adams.

Given the fact that the movie arm of DC Comics hasn’t been so keen on sharing characters with the TV division, the fact that we are getting both Supes (portrayed in the features by Henry Cavill) and Lois is sort of epic.

In the release announcing the news, Supergirl executive Producers Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner said, “We couldn’t be more excited to introduce Lois Lane to the Arrowverse. This dogged, determined and brave reporter will make for a strong partner to Superman and amazing addition to our universe of DC characters.”

With these two and Ruby Rose’s Batwoman on board for the Dec 9-11 crossover, it makes more sense that Legends of Tomorrow won’t be part of the event. The cast of that superteam series is expansive as it is, so this saves them from being crowded into what would surely wind up being limited screen time.
