Charlize Theron on Training for the Thrilling Fight Scenes of ‘The Old Guard’
If summer is the unofficial season for blockbusters packed with bomb explosions and butt-kicking, The Old Guard arrives right on time.
Based on the graphic novels from Greg Rucka, the film features Charlize Theron as Andy, the leader of a group of mercenaries.
“They fight for what they believe to be the greater good,” says Theron. In fact, that’s what they’ve been doing for centuries, since they’re immortal.
A pharmaceutical exec (Harry Melling) schemes to kidnap them and study their DNA, leading to thrilling fight scenes that kept Theron on her toes.
Before filming began, “I trained five days a week for four months,” she says. It certainly shows.
