‘Superstore’: Jonah Teaches Glenn an Olympics-Themed Lesson (VIDEO)
Superstore is celebrating the Olympics, albeit in its own little time capsule.
The NBC comedy ended its first season with much of the Cloud 9 staff going on strike to support their boss, Glenn (Mark McKinney), who was fired after he tried to find a way to give Cheyenne (Nichole Bloom) paid maternity leave.
“The Olympics episode is a bonus, standalone episode that takes place in the world of the show at some point last season before the walkout,” executive producer Justin Spitzer said during the show’s recent Television Critics Association panel. “Cheyenne is still pregnant. The group hasn’t had this big union discussion yet.”

And so when the Olympics-themed episode airs on Friday, August 19 at 10:30/9:30c—with guest stars Apolo Anton Ohno, Tara Lipinski, McKayla Maroney and Saturday Night Live‘s Cecily Strong—the games inspire Glenn to become super patriotic…to the concern of Jonah (Ben Feldman), who worries he may be alienating other employees.
“It’s the Olympics!” Glenn says in the exclusive clip below. “It’s all about rooting for your country and saying, ‘all the other countries eat beans.'”
“But it’s also about the countries coming together,” Jonah explains. “That’s why the rings are interlocked.”
And that’s when it finally sinks in for Glenn. Watch his reaction to Jonah’s lesson.
