Emmys 2016: Tatiana Maslany on ‘Orphan Black’s ‘Real Point of Pride’

Orphan Black‘s Tatiana Maslany—who plays more than a dozen clones on the BBC America drama—took home an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series on Sunday. “I didn’t expect it at all,” she told reporters backstage. “It’s such an honor.”

Maslany acknowledged the female focus (and LGBTQ-inclusive characters) on the show has “been a real point of pride” for those involved. “The response to the representation and the way young girls felt portrayed on the screen…it’s been a real connecting thing in terms of the fans,” she said. “You feel responsible to continue to tell those those stories. There’s an immense joy in telling these stories you don’t normally see.”

And though she now has a new statue to add to her Orphan Black experience, she doesn’t have a location picked out for it yet. “I’ll need a shelf!” she joked.
