‘9-1-1’: Angela Bassett Teases Athena Meeting Bobby’s Mother — Watch Promo (VIDEO)

Well, this is going to be awkward for Bobby (Peter Krause). 9-1-1 is bringing his mother into the present day, with Lesley Ann Warren playing the role in Season 8 Episode 11 … and there’s something about her he hasn’t told his wife, Athena (Angela Bassett).

As the promo for “Holy Mother of God” reveals, his mother, Ann, is an evangelist, and just as she’s seemingly helping someone (“That is the power of God!”), people start collapsing. “The faithful are dropping like flies,” the person who calls 9-1-1 says. When the 118 — without Eddie (Ryan Guzman), who has now moved to Texas — arrives on scene, Anna tells Bobby, “You look well,” and Chimney (Kenneth Choi) asks if he knows her. Bobby reveals she’s his mother.

But Athena has one important question: “When were you going to tell me that your mother wasn’t dead?” Bobby explains, “She is a fraud and a con artist, it’s embarrassing.” But then the promo ends with Ann collapsing and Bobby begging her to stay with him as he performs CPR. Watch the video above.

Looking ahead to this episode, Bassett teased for TV Insider, “Athena loves Bobby, but of course, he has this real complicated backstory, history with his parents, with his family… He’s a complicated guy who’s who really is always trying to, I guess, resolve that conflict, that inner conflict, but Athena was unaware of the relationship between he and his mother, and she’s just very excited to finally meet her. Of course, Bobby is none too happy to see her and have her in town, but Athena is all about family and blending family as they have, so we’ll actually see those dynamics play out.”
