‘All the Light We Cannot See’ Trailer: Netflix Unveils Tease From Epic Wartime Series
Netflix is unveiling its first look at the highly anticipated adaptation of Anthony Doerr’s Pulitzer Prize-winning All the Light We Cannot See which is officially set to arrive Thursday, November 2.
The four-part limited series directed by Shawn Levy (Stranger Things) and written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) is being previewed in a new teaser trailer, above, as well as several photos featuring a cast of heavy hitters and enchanting newcomers. Levy helms all four episodes of the show starring Dark’s Louis Hofmann, Mark Ruffalo, Lars Eidinger, Hugh Laurie, Marion Bailey, Aria Mia Loberti, and Nell Sutton.
The project introduces Loberti and Sutton to the screen as they both take on the role of Marie-Laure LeBlanc at different times in her life. The protagonist of the story, Marie-Laure is a blind French girl whose courage and hope outweigh the chaos of war.
Ruffalo plays Marie-Laure’s father, Daniel LeBlanc, and together they flee German-occupied Paris with a legendary diamond to keep it from the hands of the Nazis. Pursued by a relentless Gestapo officer at every turn, Marie-Laure and Daniel soon find refuge in St. Malo, where they live with her reclusive uncle Étienne (Laurie) who transmits radio broadcasts as part of the resistance.
It’s here that Marie-Laure’s path collided with Werner (Hofmann), a brilliant teen enlisted by Hitler’s regime to track down illegal radio broadcasts. Instead, Werner shares a secret connection to Marie-Laure and her faith in humanity and hope during an impossible time.
