Seven remarkable canines will be celebrated when the 2019 American Humane Hero Dog Awards airs Monday, October 21 on Hallmark Channel, followed by the Love of Dogs Benefit Concert later the same evening. Now in its ninth year, the awards program is hosted by best-selling author, animal advocate, and television personality Beth Stern, and actor James Denton.

This awards show celebrates the special human-canine bond and recognizes the many ways dogs protect, save, and enrich our lives. Following more than one million votes by the American public and a panel of celebrity animal lovers and dog experts, seven dogs were selected, one in each of seven categories.

This year’s celebrity presenters include Shannen Doherty, Trevor Donovan, Danielle Fishel, Vivica A. Fox, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jenna Johnson, Ally Maki, Debbie Matenopoulos, Cameron Mathison, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Brandon McMillan , Barbara Niven, Kristoffer Polaha, Roselyn Sanchez, Ariel Winter, Eric Winter, Larissa Wohl and Sofia Wylie.

In addition, Broadway sensation and multi-talented actress Kristin Chenoweth was on hand to accept Hallmark Channel’s 2019 Adoption Ever After Award, honoring her passion for animal welfare and above-and-beyond efforts in pet rescue.

This year’s finalists include:

2019 GUIDE/HEARING HERO DOG “Leader Dog Lady” from Hamilton, MI
2019 LAW ENFORCEMENT/ARSON HERO DOG – “Dax” from Libertyville, IL
2019 MILITARY HERO DOG – “Sgt. Yeager” from Cary, NC
2019 SEARCH AND RESCUE HERO DOG – “Piglet” from Lancaster, CA
2019 SERVICE HERO DOG – “Alice” from Nicholasville, KY
2019 SHELTER HERO DOG – “Gus” from Houston, TX
2019 THERAPY HERO DOG – “Jeanie” from Lake Charles, LA

Following the awards show, Hallmark Channel and PEDIGREE Foundation team up for a television special to help the millions of shelter and rescue dogs across the country find loving homes. The Love of Dogs Benefit Concert will feature country artists Lee Brice, Hunter Hayes and Easton Corbin and was taped before a live audience at the fabled Country Music Hall of Fame CMA Theater. Hallmark Channel’s own Larissa Wohl served as emcee for the evening.

The television special will help raise much needed grant funds for PEDIGREE Foundation as part of Hallmark Channel’s Adoption Ever After initiative. The initiative has helped over 40,000 pets find their forever homes. The goal is to raise even more funds during the concert airing with a Text to Donate option. Viewers can make a donation by texting Dogs Rule to 615-392-1626 or visit their website at www.PEDIGREEFoundation.org.
