12 TV Ships That Made Us Smile in 2020
Let’s be honest: 2020 hasn’t given us too much to smile about, but that doesn’t mean it’s been all bad. In fact, TV has been a nice escape at times, especially when it comes to some of the couples over the past 12 months.
Whether it’s a pair we haven’t seen in some time (like Wynonna Earp‘s WayHaught), the most stable coupling in an entire franchise (NCIS: Los Angeles‘ Densi), or even a reunion that took a couple decades (Arrow‘s Olicity), there were plenty of happy moments to bring us joy when we tuned in. (For others, like The Flash‘s Barry and Iris, it was just too bittersweet and rough — she’s trapped in the Mirrorverse — to make this list.)

9-1-1's Maddie and Chimney
The dispatcher (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and firefighter (Kenneth Choi) had a rough beginning of their relationship (her abusive ex-husband almost killed both of them), but we absolutely loved seeing the two of them very much together, discussing the future, and learning they’re going to be parents!
Arrow's Oliver and Felicity
After Arrow fans had to watch hero Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) die in the crossover (across two months and technically in two different years) more than once, he more than deserved his happily ever after. As tragic as it is that he didn’t get to raise his kids, we did see him reunite with his wife when Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) stepped out of the Monitor’s portal into what’s best described as an afterlife of sorts (though we didn’t see her die and Oliver became something else).
Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Jake and Amy
We can always count on Brooklyn Nine-Nine to make us laugh, and the same is true for Jake (Andy Samberg) and Amy (Melissa Fumero), who, in Season 7, expanded their family and had a baby. And of course, as always, the two took things a bit too far when they were on different teams for the Halloween (Valloweaster, in 2019 and 2020) heist.
Chicago Fire's Kidd and Severide
The couple that fights fires together stays together. Others may be interested in them, but Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Severide (Taylor Kinney) have shown that they only have eyes for each other. They’re very much together (and cohabitating), and honestly, we wouldn’t be surprised if there’s another 51 wedding before the end of the season.
Grey's Anatomy's Amelia and Link
We’re surprised to see these two on the list, too, considering there was the baby daddy drama after Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) learned she was pregnant. But after they got over that hurdle, she and Link (Chris Carmack) emerged as the most stable couple on Grey’s Anatomy. (Again, we’re surprised, too.) And now they’re parents!
Legends of Tomorrow's Sara and Ava
We may have no idea how long-distance their relationship technically is at the moment — Sara (Caity Lotz) was abducted by aliens at the end of Season 5! — but we’re not worried about her and Ava (Jes Macallan) and we were treated to plenty of happy moments for the two, even as they dealt with Sara’s blindness.
NCIS: Los Angeles' Kensi and Deeks
They’ve come so far! Kensi (Daniela Ruah) and Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) once struggled with admitting they had a “thing” and now they’re happily married, buying a new house, and trying to have a baby. And the once-partners may be back in the field together soon: Hetty’s (Linda Hunt) Christmas gift/miracle was getting Deeks into the academy so he can become an NCIS agent after he’d lost his liaison position.
NCIS: New Orleans's Pride and Rita
There hasn’t been much reason to smile at the beginning of NCIS: New Orleans Season 7, as the procedural is tackling dirty cops and COVID-19, but its romances are a bright light, especially Pride’s (Scott Bakula). Originally set to just quarantine with him, Rita (Chelsea Field) revealed her plans to move to NOLA, and he couldn’t have been happier.
The Resident's Conrad and Nic
Get ready for a Chastain wedding (in 2021). It was a rough third season for Nic (Emily VanCamp), who lost her sister, but she and Conrad (Matt Czuchry) were as stable as they’ve ever been and planning their future. In fact, we finally saw that ring he had make an appearance when he asked her to marry him (after she suggested they wed for more practical reasons).
Schitt's Creek's David and Patrick
The Pop TV comedy went out on a high note (and we’re not just talking all those Emmys!): David (Daniel Levy) and Patrick (Noah Reid) got married (with a bit of singing, of course) and looked to the future, which included staying in Schitt’s Creek.
Station 19's Carina and Maya
It’s been a rocky road for the couple, who met when Dr. Carina DeLuca was mostly part of Grey’s world before Stefania Spampinato became a Station 19 regular, but she and firefighter Maya Bishop (Danielle Savre) have made it work. They even moved in together during quarantine and made it past their first obstacle when Carina brought a bit too much of her home of Italy to the kitchen.
Wynonna Earp's Waverly and Nicole
Earpers fought to get their show back, and not only did it return with a vengeance, the first six episodes of Season 4 also featured a moment many had been waiting for: an official proposal for fan-favorite couple WayHaught (after quite the sexy reunion). Nicole (Katherine Barrell) may have started asking the question, but Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley) was the one to finish it, and what matters the most is that they are getting married!
