‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Starts Production: What Does Season 16 Hold for Meredith & DeLuca? (PHOTOS)

On July 28, Debbie Allen posted this photo with Kelly McCreary and Ellen Pompeo from what looks like the Season 16 kickoff party.
“We’re back,” she announced, adding lips and heart-eyes emojis.
Giacomo Gianniotti teased a Meredith/DeLuca scene in the Season 16 premiere with this photo on July 29.
“First day back at work with this beauty,” he wrote in the caption, adding the hashtags, #pajamadayeveryday and #icecreamforbreakfast.
Pompeo teased her first scene of Season 16 with this Instagram story on July 29.
“This is my first scene of season 16 eating ice cream in bed with @giacomo_gianniotti and I get paid??? #shondalandproblems,” she wrote on the photo of her scene partner.
Production has begun on Grey’s Anatomy Season 16, and the first photos should have you wondering what exactly is going to happen with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti).
At the end of Season 15, DeLuca had taken the blame for Meredith’s insurance fraud and was in prison. However, as the finale ended, Meredith visited him and told him she loved him and would turn herself in. We have to wait until the new season to see if she does and just what happens next with that storyline.
However, neither character is in prison in the photos that both Pompeo and Gianniotti posted to their Instagram accounts from the first day back. In fact, things look relatively normal for their characters, even if we don’t know yet how long Bailey (Chandra Wilson) firing Meredith, Alex (Justin Chambers), and Richard (James Pickens Jr.) will stick.
