‘Law & Order’ and ‘SVU’ Crossover Promo Teases Stabler Helping Benson (VIDEO)
Well, it looks like the Law & Order and SVU crossover is going to be heartbreaking for Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), so it’s a good thing she’ll have her former partner, Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), around to assist, as the latest promo reveals.
The two Law & Order shows still airing on NBC are crossing over for a two-hour event on Thursday, April 17. But while Meloni’s Organized Crime spinoff moves to Peacock with its fifth season, the first episode will air right after the event (moving Found to Monday, April 14, for that week only).
In the crossover, a mysterious phone call to Capt. Benson of the SVU leads detectives to the scene of a brutal murder. When the SVU and the 2-7 uncover a pattern of rape and murder targeting marginalized women, Carisi (Peter Scanavino) and ADA Price (Hugh Dancy) team up to charge the suspect with multiple crimes.
The promo, which you can watch above, reveals that Benson knew the victim: It’s Maria Recinos, whom Benson rescued as a young girl in Season 7’s “911” (Hargitay won an Emmy for it) and who then became a cop in Season 25. So, of course, Benson is determined to find who did this.
But, Baxter (Tony Goldwyn) warns, “This case is too important to just leave to chance,” and Price says, “You are not the only one looking for justice.”
The promo ends with Benson saying, “Sometimes you have to ask for forgiveness instead of permission,” as we see Stabler pin someone to a wall. Watch the video above for more.
This won’t be the only time you’ll get to see Benson and Stabler together again, even with Organized Crime‘s move to Peacock. Hargitay will appear in the second episode of Season 5 of Meloni’s spinoff (streaming April 17), visiting Stabler in the hospital.
