Tony Goldwyn Guest Stars on ‘Law & Order: SVU’ — Will Benson & Baxter Clash? (PHOTOS)

What’s DA Baxter (Law & Order‘s Tony Goldwyn) going to think of what Benson (Mariska Hargitay) wants to do in the February 13 episode of Law & Order: SVU?

Well, as the promo above reveals, the squad brings in a child pornographer (guest star Jared Canfield), but may be about to make “a deal with the devil” to take down a ring of pedophiles. Benson, of course, is outraged. Benson tells Baxter they need to talk — presumably, the order to make the deal came from him, and if that’s the case, we know she won’t be happy with him.

In “Calculated,” when a high school principal busts a student for sexting, the SVU uncovers a sinister case of distribution concerning hundreds of underage students. Silva (Juliana Aidén Martinez) pleads for leniency for a suspect she believes is innocent. Might that also come into play when Benson and Carisi (Peter Scanavino) meet with Baxter?

Ahead of Episode 9, Scanavino spoke with us about working with Goldwyn in this episode. “It’s funny when you are meeting somebody for the first time, but clearly your characters have had conversations, so you’re trying to key into that,” he noted. (Conversations between Carisi and Baxter were mentioned offscreen in that same episode.) “But he was a perfectly, totally lovely guy and really great actor. I’d obviously known Tony Goldwyn before, and it was just great to meet him on screen and off.”

We also know of at least one SVU and Organized Crime crossover coming up, with Scanavino bringing Carisi over to the now streaming show; the Christopher Meloni-led spinoff has moved to Peacock for its fifth season.

“The Carisi-Stabler dynamic is kind of interesting because I’ve been on that show a few times now, and it seems like I’m the go-to guy for the Los Santos case, but I feel like I always go, ‘There’s a problem,’ and then Chris goes, ‘What?’ and then they go fix it,” Scanavino said. “I’m the person that brings up the problems in the case to everybody.”
