Season 2 reimagines the world of Outlander by having Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) travel to the fashion capital of the world, Paris. The change from the Scottish highlands to French high society is fitting for the set and costumes, which are more vibrant and detailed than ever before. Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe)
Claire is a former WWII British army nurse who uses her charm and witty comebacks to her advantage. After going on a second honeymoon to Scotland with her husband Frank (Tobias Randall), Claire's encounter with a mysterious rock transports her back in time to 1743. Once there, she is forced marry Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), but she soon falls in love with him. In Season 2, a pregnant Claire has set a mission to stop the Jacobite rebellion that will result in the Battle of Culloden, which will destroy Scottish Highlander life.
Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan)
As Claire’s husband in 1743, Jamie is a strong and courageous Scottish Highlander who saves his wife’s life on numerous occasions. In comparison to his comrades, Jamie is worldly and chivalrous for a warrior. He is also a bright leader who dreams of returning back to his family’s farm. Alongside Claire, Jamie must pretend to be a fine wine merchant and ingratiate himself into French society in order to get information about the rebellion.
King Louis XV (Lionel Lingelser)
King Louis XV is a man of power used to getting his way...and a fan of pretty ladies, though he often loses interest in people quickly. Claire and Jamie are introduced to the King after they flee from Black Jack Randall in France.
Louise de Rohan (Claire Sermonne)
This flippant and spirited member of the French court ends up forming a strong friendship with Claire, despite their differences.
Prince Charles Stuart (Andrew Gower)
Prince Charles is a young heir to the exiled Catholic royal dynasty who spends most of his time plotting his return to the throne. However, his love for both women and alcohol often conflicts for his longing for power.
Mary Hawkins (Rosie Day)
The daughter of a baronet and niece to Mr. Silas Hawkins, Mary is a very timid girl who has an arranged marriage to the Vicomte Marigny, a much older French nobleman. She meets Claire through Louise.
Le Comte St. Germain (Stanley Weber)
Another member of the French court, Le Comte is a ruthless wine merchant who no one should cross…especially since he’s interested in occult matters.
Murtagh Fitzgibbons (Duncan Lacroix)
As Jamie's godfather, Murtagh lurks in the background observing the world through a strict code. He believes in loyalty and wants nothing more than what’s best for his godson.
Colum Mackenzie (Gary Lewis)
Colum may be the Laird of the Mackenzie Clan, but he suffers from a degenerative disease that is both painful and constricting. When his legs become immobile, he relies on his insightful and keen sense of intellect, and his cunning ways serve him well as a leader of a brawny Scottish clan.
Dougal Mackenzie (Graham McTavish)
The War Chieftain of Clan MacKenzie, Dougal is an experienced and skillful warrior who always has his brother, Colum’s, back, even if he secretly wants to be Laird. He is feared by many and is also a secret supporter of the rebellious Jacobites who want to fight the British.
Rupert MacKenzie (Grant O’Rourke)
The playboy of the MacKenzie clan, Rupert is Jamie’s second cousin. He loves a good raid and any opportunity to impress Dougal (even if he also envies his power), which leads him to join the Jacobites.
Angus Mhor (Stephan Walters)
Rarely sober, Angus is another member of the MacKenzie clan who truly hates the Brits. Despite his hard drinking, he has sarcasm to spare and is a valuable warrior for the Jacobite cause.
Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies)
Beloved husband to Claire in 1937, Frank is a true academic and a former British Intelligence agent. Even though he still carries bad memories from the war, he’s ready to move on with his new career as a historian. But when his wife suddenly disappears, he’s left to figure out what happened to her.
