Behind the Scenes With the ‘Riverdale’ Cast on Set (PHOTOS)
Veronica and Betty duet! At first, shooting the Carrie: The Musical episode scared Lili Reinhart (near left, with Camila Mendes). “I thought it was going to be a lot more stressful,” she says, but she credits her costars for the bloody good time. “We’re so comfortable with one another—it doesn’t matter if we mess up. It takes away the pressure.”
“Mark Consuelos is such a nice guy,” swears executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who saw a video of the soap vet boldly defending wife Kelly Ripa from the paparazzi and thought, “That’s our Hiram Lodge.” Here, Consuelos’s onscreen wife, Marisol Nichols (as the equally conniving Hermione Lodge), gets a touch-up on the couple’s penthouse set, which, like most of the town’s hot spots, “we try to make look a bit noir,” Aguirre-Sacasa says. That’s a bonus for the show’s stylists: “They don’t have to tone down the makeup or costumes in those scenes,” adds the exec producer.
“It’s always been a great set,” says Skeet Ulrich (FP Jones), left, with TV son Cole Sprouse (Jughead) on the set of Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe. “I love working with Cole. He’s a deep thinker and just a great person to talk to and get to know.”
Luke Perry and KJ Apa’s Andrews men are two of the show’s “beating hearts,” says Aguirre-Sacasa. “Luke [left] would be happy if he only had scenes with KJ just talking about [Archie’s] problems,” he adds with a laugh. And there sure were plenty of problems last season. Hello, vigilante Archie!

He hopes to do an episode in Season 3 “where we flip it so the core five are Josie, Kevin, Cheryl, Toni and Reggie…and Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead are the supporting characters.”

Betty’s mom’s got it going on! “It’s not a bad time to be Alice Cooper,” says Mädchen Amick, just before shooting the greatest party-entrance scene ever, after being exposed as a onetime member of the wrong-side-of-the-tracks Serpents. “She’s fun to play right now.”
