Line ‘Em Up! We Investigate 10 ‘Riverdale’ Murder Suspects
Who killed Jason Blossom? That is going to be the Laura Palmer-ish head-scratcher of Riverdale for weeks to come. This season of the sinister, sexy new drama based on the Archie Comics will unfurl the investigation into the rich kid’s (Trevor Stines) final moments. And just from the looks of the series opener, the list of suspects reaches into every corner of this iconic, but maybe not-so-idyllic small town.
Here are TV Insider’s primary people of interest. Tell us in the comment who you suspect.
Alice Cooper (Madchen Amick)
First off, her name is Alice Cooper. Secondly, Betty’s bitchy mother showed no remorse at the river’s edge over the death of the boy who sent her other daughter to the asylum. “I hope in those last moments, he suffered,” she uttered to hubby Hal (Lochlyn Munro). “May Jason Blossom burn in hell.”
Yeah, she scares us.
Fred Andrews (Luke Perry)
Given that Archie’s father is devoted to his own son, it’s doubtful he would harm someone else’s kid. Still, you never know if he wanted Jason out of the picture so Arch would be the town’s only hot ginger.
Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray)
As the mayor’s daughter and lead singer of the Pussycats, Murray says that Josie and Cheryl Blossom are besties based on shared status. “She comes from a lot of money…and the McCoys are politically known.” And we certainly have seen enough examples of elitism leading to fatal confrontations.
Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch)
She seems devastated by her brother’s untimely end, but she also seems like the most demented head cheerleader ever. “She is the queen of her world because everyone bows down to her,” says Petsch, who agrees that there are hints of “twincest” between the oddly close siblings. “Jason was the only person to show Cheryl unconditional love.”
Perhaps we’re actually looking at a case of a suicide pact gone awry?
Hottest Nerd Archie Andrews (KJ Apa, Riverdale)
Oh my god, for years, the Red-Headed Goodboy was such. A. Geek! Like squeaky-clean and all-American innocence, wrapped in a letter jacket and nobody took him seriously. Now, he can get it around the clock, yo! No wonder Betty and Veronica and Val and Miss Grundy have developed a taste for Ginger.
Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse)
Archie’s emo bff lives in an run-down drive-in, looks like he hasn’t seen the sun in ages and has a pretty dark sense of humor. “He uses comedy to disguise a torment that exists within him,” offers Sprouse. Whether that torment includes homicidal guilt remains to be seen.
Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes)
As the new girl in town, it’s highly unlikely she had anything to do with Jason’s death. No one in their right mind would return to the scene of the crime…although it is strange that she showed up just as the case was heating up.
Could that bag of money her mom (Marisol Nichols) has be linked to the town’s richest family?
Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart)
Archie’s meek-but-hot gal pal may have gotten so tired of being stuck in his friend zone that she went and bagged herself a lookalike in Jason. And with signs of instability showing (just wait until episode 3!), it’s not unthinkable that she took out her anger on the wrong redhead.
Miss Grundy (Sarah Habel)
If she’s sleeping with one student, who’s to say she hasn’t slept with others? Maybe even one who was going to expose her sextracurricular activities?
Keep an eye on this one.
Moose Mason (Cody Kearsley)
He barely appears in the pilot and when he does, it’s for a clandestine hookup with Kevin Keller (Casey Cott) that ends with them discovering Jason’s bloated, beached corpse.
So he’s definitely on the DL. But what else is the football stud hiding?
