‘Scott Pilgrim Takes Off’ Unites Film Stars With Comic Flare in Anime Trailer (VIDEO)
Netflix is bringing Scott Pilgrim fans the best of both worlds as the streamer unites the stars of Edgar Wright‘s 2010 film to voice their graphic novel comic counterparts in the anime series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.
Set to debut Friday, November 17, the new animated adventure will feature 8 episodes from co-showrunners Bryan Lee O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski who write the series as well as executive produce alongside Wright. Inspired by the graphic novels written and drawn by O’Malley, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World brought the animated characters to live action, and this fresh series helps unite both formats as Michael Cera and the original cast return to give voice to their animated characters.
Directed by Abel Gongora, episodes feature the vocals of Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead who reprises the role of Ramona Flowers, the individual responsible for Scott’s infatuation. Others back for the fun of it all are Satya Bhabha, Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick, Brie Larson, Alison Pill, Aubrey Plaza, Brandon Routh, Jason Schwartzman, Johnny Simmons, Mark Webber, Mae Whitman, and Ellen Wong.
Along with unveiling the trailer which teases the anime debut of Scott’s band Sex Bob-omb, Netflix has released several images from the forthcoming series which along with Wright, O’Malley, and Grabinski, is executive produced by Marc Platt, Jared LeBoff, Adam Siegel, Michael Bacall, Nira Park, and Eunyoung Choi.
For those less familiar with the titular character, Scott Pilgrim is a musician based out of Toronto who falls for American Ramona Flowers but finds himself in a sticky situation when he has to take on her jealous exes. The exact plotline of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off has yet to be announced though, meaning that this iteration could take viewers anywhere, but considering some of the visual similarities between the animated show and its source materials, we’re expecting some recognizable territory will be covered.
In addition to the returning voices, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off will boast original songs by Anamanaguchi and Joseph Trapanese.
