‘Space Force’: Steve Carell Is a General in Over His Head in Netflix’s First Look (VIDEO)
Netflix is finally giving viewers a first look at the highly anticipated comedy Space Force, from the people behind The Office.
The series, which the streamer announced will debut Friday, May 29, stars Steve Carell alongside a large cast of characters including Friends alum Lisa Kudrow. When four-star general Mark R. Naird (Carell) — a decorated pilot with dreams of running the Air Force — is recruited as the lead of Space Force, a newly formed sixth branch of the US Armed Forces, he’s thrown for a loop.
Though he’s skeptical about the position, Mark is dedicated to the duty and uproots his family to settle at a remote Colorado base where he works with a team of scientists and “Spacemen.” Tasked by the White House with “getting American boots on the moon” again and in a quick manner, he learns their goal is to achieve “total space dominance.”
Kudrow appears in a recurring role as Mark’s wife Maggie Naird, a Washington Air Force wife who has suppressed parts of herself over the past two decades as she supported her husband in his career. When Mark decides to take on this big challenge, she has her sights set on a different goal.
Described as a new workplace comedy, Space Force is a series in which the stakes are as high as the sky and ambitions are even higher. Viewers are in for plenty of laughs in the title co-created by Carell and The Office creator Greg Daniels. Joining Carell and Kudrow in the cast are John Malkovich, Diana Silvers, Tawny Newsome, Ben Schwartz, Jimmy O. Yang, Noah Emmerich, Alex Sparrow, and Don Lake. The Office‘s Howard Klein (3Arts Productions) executive produces the series.
