What is Toxic Town About?

The press release for the series, published on Wednesday morning on Netflix’s website, states, “Based on one of the UK’s biggest environmental scandals, Toxic Town is the story of the people at the heart of the Corby poisonings. Focusing on the mothers who took on a David and Goliath battle for justice, the series traces through the years of their fight as a terrible truth comes to the surface.”

Is Toxic Town based on a true story?

Yes, the series is based on the true story of an important scandal that changed the lives of people in the UK. The story focuses on a group of mothers (Whittaker, Wood, and Jessie will be portraying three of them in the series) who will be confronting face-to-face the council of Corby, who has been mishandling toxic waste, and its causing poisonings to the people that live in the town.

Jack Thorne, writer of Toxic Town, shared his thoughts in an interview with Netflix’s TUDUM by stating, “It’s a genuinely working-class story. It’s a story of people who are not part of the system that have never thought the system would work for them, working within the system and [fighting for] the result they deserved.”
