The 13 Highest-Rated Horror Movies of All Time (and Where to Watch Them)

This modern Japanese zombie comedy follows a low-budget film crew as they attempt to make a zombie movie in an abandoned WWII site and then have to grapple with the real deal. It lands at seven on Rotten Tomatoes’ list and can be watched for some very meta entertainment over at AMC+.

Centering on a college couple’s uniquely deadly trip to visit her family, Jordan Peele‘s debut pic was an instant classic of the genre and ranks fourth on Rotten Tomatoes — stream it on Peacock. 

Despite the title, a lot of people laid eyes on this 1973 thriller and loved it, despite the grim premise of grieving parents who meet a pair of witches that claim to be in touch with their late daughter. Critics ranked it in fourth place on Metacritic, and you can too by visiting the libraries at Kanopy and PlutoTV.

Ranking third on Rotten Tomatoes and 15th on Metacritic, Ridley Scott’s chest-burster of a space horror never gets old. The pic, which centers on an extraterrestrial attack of a starship and its crew, can be found on Disney+ and Hulu.

Coming in at third on Metacritic’s list and 19th on Rotten Tomatoes is this 1935 monster classic, a sequel to Frankenstein that is currently streaming on Peacock.

With a critical score of 98, this Swedish horror romance is something audiences can definitely sink their teeth into. The movie, which has since been adapted to an American version and a television show, follows a boy who makes friends with a young vampire and is available on Amazon, Kanopy, Peacock, PlutoTV, Roku Channel, and Tubi.

As if pregnancy doesn’t already have plenty of complications and risks, this story finds a woman afraid that she’s carrying something other than a bouncing baby. Ranked second on Metacritic’s list with a score of 96 and 17th on RT’s with 97, this devilishly good horror adaptation is available on AMC+, Kanopy, and Paramount+.

The first place on Rotten Tomatoes’ best horror list goes to this Steven Spielberg classic, which centers on an epic battle between a ship captain and a great white shark. The pic that inspired an entire generation to fear the ocean and is available to watch on Netflix.

Rated number one on Metacritic with a score of 97 (and also #5 on Rotten Tomatoes with 97, which is why it ranks at the top on this list) is this Alfred Hitchcock all-timer.
