Born in Uttoxeter, England, Adam Peaty attended Painsley Catholic College and Derby College, in the United Kingdom. Peaty was a breaststroke specialist, who represented Great Britain in numerous athletic competitions, including the FINA world championships and the Commonwealth Games.
Peaty rose to fame in 2014, when he swam the 100-meter breaststroke and the 4x100 medley relay at the Commonwealth Games, earning two gold medals. That same year he swam in the European Aquatics Championships and won 4 gold medals. Later that year, at the World Short Course Championships, Peaty won three silver medals in 100 meter, 50 meter, and a 4 x 50 meter relay.
In 2015 Peaty broke the world record for the 100-meter breaststroke by almost a full half-second, which qualified him for three breaststroke events at the 2015 World Aquatic Championships. Peaty trained at the City of Derby Swimming Club under coach Melanie Marshall, a former Olympic swimmer. As of August 2015, Peaty held three world records.
The first was for the 50-meter breaststroke, after completing the race in 26.42 seconds. He also held the world record in the 100 meter breaststroke, achieving a time of 57.92 seconds, and the 4 x 100 meter mixed medley relay, which he clocked in with a time of 3:41.71.
