Alex R. Hibbert was an American actor who made his acting debut in Barry Jenkins' critically acclaimed drama Moonlight (2016). Prior to his portrayal of the young version of main character Chiron, Hibbert had no acting experience. Jenkins commented that Hibbert wasn't a child actor, but a child, praising his ability to commit to his character in an article in Film Journal International.
Moonlight, which follows a boy's life in a bad Miami neighborhood, was made up of three acts, each portraying different phases of Chiron's life; Hibbert starred in the first act, as his character Chiron is befriended by a drug dealer and deals with a mother addicted to cocaine. Hibbert grew up in an area of Miami similar to the one portrayed in the movie, which potentially led to the inspiration for his portrayal.
