Before becoming a real housewife, Dorinda Medley started off living in New York City working with Liz Claiborne in her 20s. Eventually, she married and moved across the pond to London where she created her own company, DCL Cashmere. A decade and a divorce later, Medley returned to New York City along with her daughter Hannah.

In 2005, she married the wealthy Richard Medley, who had a background in finance and politics. The couple went on to fundraise for a variety of charities, working with a variety of celebrities. Richard Medley passed away in 2011, and Medley appeared as a guest on "The Real Housewives of New York City" (Bravo 2008- ) the same year. In 2015, she joined the main cast during the seventh season.
