Chinese-Taiwanese-American actor Hudson Yang impressed television audiences with his brash and amusing performance in the ABC comedy "Fresh Off the Boat" (2014), based on the memoir by Asian-American restaurateur Eddie Huang. Born in New York City in 2003, Yang is the son of Chinese-American writer and business consultant Jeff Yang and business/media consultatnt Heather Ying. After hearing about a school friend's experience in a television commercial, Yang convinced his parents to let him try his hand at acting.
He answered an open audition called for the independent film "The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete" (2013) and impressed the casting director, who encouraged his interest and even connected him with agents at Paradigm. Soon after, Yang landed his first acting role in the independent drama-thriller "The Sisterhood of Night" (2014) before auditioning for "Fresh Off the Boat." His performance impressed Eddie Huang, who was also serving as one of the show's producers. Yang was soon cast as Huang's 11-year-old on-screen alter ego in the series, which scored the highest ratings for a comedy premiere in the 2014-15 season.
